Hello from West Virginia!  Today we started with stops in Ohio.  In Zanesville, I was introduced to a volunteer who has made over 8,300 phone calls herself and still going strong!  That is outstanding dedication!

I am meeting individuals like her all over the country who are inspired by John McCain and Sarah Palin.  In fact, there are over 1.1 million volunteers who have already made over 20 million voter contacts.  We are ahead of where we were in 2004 and racing at an impressive clip.

After making a few more stops, we ended the evening in Charleston, WV at an event with Congresswoman Shelley Moore Capito.  I visited with volunteers, students for McCain, and I even made phone calls to make sure people are getting out to vote for the McCain-Palin ticket.  I hope you will join me in reaching out to your friends and neighbors as well.  In all, we had another hugely successful day on the bus tour.

We are now 4 days away.  Being from Kentucky where college basketball reigns, I think of these days as the Final Four and we are marching to victory!

1. Shellbell - November 2, 2008

Thank you for all your efforts in working toward a McCain victory. I am frustrated that I cannot do more than contribute and vote this year. I talk to anyone and everyone about the importance of a McCain victory. I have put together the reasons I cannot support Sen. Obama. They come from my studying the man, this country, our history and listening and watching everything I can. Here one Americans reasons for not supporting Sen. Obama:

1. It is mathematically impossible for 95% of Americans to receive the tax break that Sen. Obama keeps touting. Currently, 95% of Americans do not pay federal income taxes. So, if 95% of Americans are to receive some sort of “tax break,” that actually means s upwards of 40% of the people will receive a hand out, not an actual tax break. And, who will foot that “bill?” Americans that actually have to pay taxes—like you and me.

2. Sen. Obama’s tax increases are only supposed to affect the rich, which he has referred to as those making over $250,000 a year. Those of you making $250,000 annually, ask yourselves if you feel as if you are rich. If you don’t feel rich maybe you will be considered rich because this number keeps coming down. Sen. Obama has also said these increases will only affect those making under $200,000 annually. Sen. Biden lowered that to $150,000 and, just today, New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson lowered the amount to $120,000. You wait and see! The amount will keep getting lower and lower to the point where you will be considered rich if you make $50,000 or more. So, most of us may be considered rich someday soon. Who knows “how low can it go?

3. The Bush tax cuts will expire in 2010. Under an Obama administration these tax cuts will not be extended. Not extending them is no more than a tax increase. Look at your pay stubs from 2000, 2001 and 2002, etc. Even though you are making more money, you more than likely get less federal taxes taken out of your paycheck now than you did then. And, that my friend, is due to the Bush tax cuts.

4. President Bush’s administration attempted to reign in Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac numerous times in the last seven years. This fact can be verified by research done on the Lexis/Nexis Databases. Each time they attempted to do so, the administration was “shot down” by Democrats in Congress like Rep. Barney Frank and Sen. Chris Todd. These two agencies are the worst culprits in the subprime mortgage crisis.

5. Sen. McCain also attempted to get legislation through the Congress that would reign in Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. He tried to enact legislation in 2005 that would have helped head off the crisis in the subprime mortgage crisis. The legislation went nowhere, thanks to the Democrats in Congress that blocked his attempt.

6. Sen. Obama was not concerned about the rising gas prices earlier this year. He simply said he was bothered by how quickly they rose to the $4 level. He actually said we should make sure our tires were properly filled with air to save on gas. For what, a couple of cents a tank? He did nothing to stop the prices from rising. What actually brought down the price of oil and, subsequently, gas was the fact that demand plummeted and people started driving less—proving the principles of economics regarding supply and demand. What helped even further was Pres. Bush’s lifting of the Presidential Executive Order prohibiting drilling offshore and the efforts of “drill here, drill now” politics. Speculators saw the “writing on the wall” and they started to bet that prices would come down and they did. Speculators can make money depending on which way they “speculate” prices will go.

7. The owner of the Miami Dolphins is positioning himself to sell his team if Obama is elected. What does that say for the rest of us? We are in big trouble, if someone with “deep pockets” feels it necessary to sell such a valuable asset.

8. Look at the way Sen. Obama and his campaign treated the two major female candidates in this election cycle—Sen. Hillary Clinton and Gov. Sarah Palin. Clinton and Palin have been disrespected and misrepresented by the Obama campaign. The Obama campaign made no statement condemning the effigy of Palin hanging in a Halloween display in California. However, they rightfully, complained when someone hung an effigy of Sen. Obama at the University of Kentucky. (Both of these are despicable acts!) Saying nothing about Gov. Palin’s likeness being hung in effigy sure is standing up for the decent treatment of women (sarcasm intended).

9. Sen. Obama recently said that the U.S. should look to China for their success in construction of infrastructure in their country. Communist China is not a place at which the U.S. should look for anything. China cannot handle a minor earthquake in their country, their citizens are treated as chattel for the government and products they have manufactured for our children, pets and their own people have caused illnesses and deaths.

10. Tom Brokaw was a guest on the “Charlie Rose Show” recently and they were lamenting over the fact that they don’t know who Sen. Obama is. These two men, both liberal broadcasters, have been around Obama during this nearly two year presidential campaign and both have interviewed him and they don’t know who he is. They went on further to say “he doesn’t let you in.” If they don’t know Sen. Obama, then who does? And, how can we support someone even they don’t know?

11. My parents taught me that it did matter who my friends were and with whom I associated. So, it does matter that Sen. Obama had a long association with Bill Ayres and Bernadine Dorn—members of the 1960s domestic terrorist group the “Weather Underground.” It does matter that Obama’s good friend and mentor in Hawaii was Frank Marshall Davis and avowed Communist. It does matter that he sat in Rev. Jeremiah Wright’s church for 20 years and listened to hate filled sermons for this country and many of the people that reside here. Hate spewed from a pulpit is dangerous and against all that is Christian. What it means to be Christian is to love everyone, no matter their background or race. No “man or woman of God” should preach hatred toward anyone. So, it also mattered when Father Pfleger preached against and mocked Sen. Clinton from the pulpit.

12. The biggest reason I cannot support Sen. Obama is because I am a student of history. Look at the most recent history of this great country. Our last two Presidents were “tested” early in each of their administrations by those who hate us and wish to see us destroyed. Pres. Clinton was tested in February of 1993 with the first attack on the World Trade Center. Pres. Bush was tested in September of 2001 with the attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon. Regardless of what you think about the responses of these two Presidents, both attacks were alarming and devastating. We must never forget what happened on that day and those who sacrificed their lives.

Our next President will also likely be tested, early in his administration, in some horrible manner by those who hate us. The next “test” could be as bad or “God forbid” even worse than the September 2001 attacks. I don’t believe that Sen. Obama could or would do whatever it takes to keep us safe and to keep our way of life intact. If handled improperly, such an event could change our country and our lives forever. This is the primary reason I cannot support Sen. Obama for the U.S. Presidency. And, therefore, I support with a full heart and great hope for our country’s future, Sen. John McCain for the President of the United States of America.
