1. Bob Cottam - November 5, 2008

Mike,

Its Wednesday and we have a President elect. Not the one we wanted, but the one we are stuck with for the next four years. He had a better organization and the economy to help him. We missed and did many things wrong and right. Today is the first day preparing for 2012. Let’s get a good candidate, a better plan and more money to defeat this socialist. Can’t look back so let’s look forward and get ourselves out of this mess. We survived Carter and Clinton, we can survive this nut.

2. Linda Sagastume - November 5, 2008

The populous has cast it’s vote and we have a Democratic President and a Democratic controlled Congress. As Republicans, we must seize the moment to assert a conservative platform, and stay true to who we are. No more pandering toward a moderate stance, rather we must unite for fiscal reform, less spending, less government, pro-life, pro-marriage, and tax reform. It is now or never folks! Today begins the quest for Republicans to recover lost ground. Let’s recruit new talent, focus on a plan to elect Republicans to Congress in 2010, and groom our next Presidential candidate. There is much to be learned from 2008. Heartfelt thanks to Senator McCain and Governor Palin for fighting the good fight. The good news is Senator McCain will be a formidable force to reckon with on the floor of the Senate. For the first time since the 70’s my home state of Colorado has TWO Democratic Senators, I am beside myself. The only silver lining to this dark cloud is perseverance and tenacity by those of us who love the USA and the republican party. Let Freedom Ring!

3. Jack Wright - November 5, 2008

The Republican Party should return to its conservative roots by actively promoting Democracy and Freedom, cutting the U.S. budget, stress individual responsibility as opposed to being a ward of the state, promote free enterprise, oppose abortions, retain the Bush tax cuts, cut off funds for ACORN, secure the U.S. borders, deport all illegals, maintain a strong military, drill everywhere for oil, actively debunk the failed global warming theory, eliminate the CAFE standards for the auto industry so the Big 3 can survive, promote the conversion of existing vehicles to natural gas and most of all restructure the RNC with conservatives who will implement these policies. This last experiment to move the Republican Party to the left failed. These failed liberal policies must be discarded and the RNC must start promoting conservative policies in an effort to present a clear alternative to the American people. I would like to see the RNC take a more educational role that explains why conservative policies are superior to the self serving policies of the Democratic Party.

4. Bill Walter - November 6, 2008

I agree that the GOP has moved too far to the left. Many Republicans seem to view government as a team sport. They feel that it is better to stay in power than to stand for something more important. I would rather loose than compromise with the devil. As I look at the Republicans who lost on Tuesday the moderates are the ones who lost not the conservatives. John McCain is the most obvious example. In the Senate races the moderate republicans were the losers. Here in Minnesota Moderate Norm Coleman is hanging on by the narrowest of margins. Meanwhile Conservative congressmen John Kline and Michele Bachmann won more easily. The Bush’s and their compassionate conservatism and big government policies are the reason we Republicans are in the fix we are in.

5. Dennis Brant - November 8, 2008

I have always been an Independent…I registered during the primary to be one of the few in Iowa to vote Sen. McCain.
I had resolved myself to be active in this last election and I volunteered; going door to door, making phone calls, driving people to the polls, and making a modest monetary contribution.
I have so much respect for Senator McCain and know in my heart that Americans will come to regret the decisions made on November 4th but my problem with continuing with the GOP has nothing to do with the poor mislead masses but rather the GOP itself and I have some questions I would like the GOP to answer before I enlist to the cause.
Why has no one from the GOP called out the cowards bent on destroying the reputation of Gov. S. Palen ? why does she have to defend herself alone without the GOP’s support ? I was not happy with adding her to Sen. McCain’s ticket but I wasn’t voting for her and as I saw more of her and as I saw her handle all of the negative press she had piled upon her I admired her character. She deserves the full support of the GOP’s leadership and these petty, divisive actions need to be stopped. This is something the GOP leadership has the ability to do. Mr. Duncan and the rest of the GOP’s leadership need to act quickly otherwise you may alienate people looking for a common sense party

6. Dana and Mike Rasmussen - November 9, 2008

Mr. Chairman,
Thank you for your many years of service to our country; it is greatly appreciated. I just read of your new online, grass-roots initiative, “Republican for a Reason.” Never having been involved in politics before, I am now eager to participate. At 53, and a life-long Republican, I think I feel like most of us out there…frustrated!! For the past 10-15 yrs I have sat by quietly while our country has gone down downhill. Now I am speaking out and here are my issues:
Our Republican party and President have failed us in many areas, including:
1. Spending: Per today’s Parade magazine, we owe 2.67 Trillion dollars to foreign governments (541 billion to China, 179.8 billion to OPEC nations). This is outrageous. What did we gain by all this debt, and was it worth it?. The bill will some day come due. Are we in denial of this fact or ignorant to it?
2. The Irag War- may of us grew up with the Vietnam War, and it seems all too similar. I don’t think the price was worth it. Opposing this war does not mean that I am unpatriotic and don’t appreciate the hard work and lives sacrificed by our military. But there are people in need in this country who could have used all those billions of dollars first, over the Iragi people. .
3. Consumer Rights Eroded- What Teddy Roosevelt accomplished has slowly been taken away by corporate greed “gone amok.”
a. Credit Card companies and Banks are practicing what amounts to usary.
b. Corporate monopolies- oil, insurance and auto industries have gouged us with little controls or consequence, all in the name of “protecting growth.” Well, where is our growth now?
4. Ignoring the need for alternative energy: are politicians getting their pockets lined so that we keep using petroleum as our main energy source; so that Americans get gouged; so that OPEC nations get wealthier and have money to fund terrorism? Why hasn’t the auto industry responded with more energy efficient cars? Why haven’t more politicians taken the initiative to make these changes?
5. Imigration reforms-with our country in such economic turmoil, I hardly think it fair that our tax dollars go to illegals. I am not cold hearted. I think our American Citizens in need should be taken care of first! This may not be a “politically correct” view, but the majority of Americans feel this way, and we are being ignored.
6. We forgot what caused the Great Depression, and unfortunately, headed down the same path, with wild speculation and spending money we didn’t have.
These are just a few of my gripes, but I think they are shared by many. It is time for Republicans to REDEFINE OUR PRINCIPLES, and STICK TO THEM!! Legislators need to stop “giving-in” and “going-along, but instead, start representing the people who voted them in. Besides your grass-roots initiative, perhaps you would consider spending GNP dollars on educating the populace with media ads, appealing to their common sense, and explaining these principles. Otherwise, people will vote based on their emotions, as we have seen in this election. There is nothing wrong with our Republican principles, you all just haven’t been following them! Thank you for considering these ideas.
