I was saddened to hear about the passing of Paul Weyrich this morning. He was instrumental in the development of conservative thought and his contributions will continue to resonate for generations.

Our thoughts and prayers are with his family.

Just wanted to be sure everyone saw the Chicago Tribune’s editorial today titled: Trust the people? Nah.

As I have said before, the voice of the people in Illinois must be heard, yet it seems that IL House Speaker Madigan and IL Senate President Jones would rather defer to backroom politics than give the people a special election. You can read the editorial here: http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/opinion/chi-1217edit1dec17,0,6619080.story

The Loyal Opposition December 15, 2008

As the Chairman of the Republican National Committee I understand the role we play in being the loyal opposition. This is a role that shifts from time to time, but duty seems to remain the same. We must raise questions and we must hold the other party accountable for their words and actions. It is with this in mind why we continue to hold Mr. Obama and his incoming administration accountable to their campaign promises, etc.

I read an interesting article today in the New York Times that raises questions about some of the nominees for the incoming cabinet who are married to lobbyists, you can find it here: http://www.nytimes.com/2008/12/15/us/politics/15lobby.html?_r=1&hp

Campaigning and Blagojevich December 11, 2008

Today we continue on the campaign, yesterday was busy with interviews, meetings, conference calls and just plain politicking with the Members of the RNC. Yesterday and into today we are continuing to keep the pressure on the incoming administration regarding the arrest and terrible allegations surrounding Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich. When someone promises “the most honest and open transition” in history they set certain expectations for the American people and as the loyal opposition we are here to keep them to their word.

On a personal note, let me just say that I find the actions of Governor Blagojevich simply despicable. Using your political power to increase you personal position is appalling. When you are elected to office you do so by gaining the trust of your constituents, to betray that trust to simply fill your pockets is revolting. I hope that the justice department conducts a thorough investigation and that all of the facts are released on what is turning out to be another troubling chapter in the saga of Chicago politics.

Two Wins in Louisiana House Races December 7, 2008

I am excited to say that voters in Louisiana spoke out today and overwhelmingly embraced the Republican Party’s core values when they elected Joseph Cao and John Fleming to Congress!  Through a robust grassroots operation utilizing cutting edge technology, we were able to communicate our message of conservative principles and turn out voters in Louisiana for two monumental Republican victories.  Coupled with the recent Senate win in Georgia, it’s clear that Republicans still know how to win elections as we continue to build a solid foundation for the elections in 2010.

Saxby Chambliss Wins Georgia Senate Runoff! December 2, 2008

Voters in Georgia reelected Saxby Chambliss to the United States Senate today!  In doing so, they selected a strong, conservative leader who shares their values and Republican principles of lower taxes and a strong defense.  His reelection sends a clear message that the Republican Party and our core conservative principles are alive and well.

The energy was amazing throughout the evening here in Atlanta as the results started coming in.  Tonight’s victory was a team effort between the Chambliss Campaign, the Georgia Republican Party, the National Republican Senatorial Committee and the RNC.  We combined a strong, conservative candidate in Senator Chambliss with a grassroots effort that leveraged technology to reach millions of Georgians via mail, phone, Internet, and in person.  We shared our message of conservative principles and Georgians agreed.

I want to personally thank everyone who volunteered and for the millions of voters who went to the polls in support of Saxby Chambliss.  Because of their efforts, the U.S. Senate now has its 41st Republican Senator!
